Second Generation Flush Hatch
Lewmar launched its original flush hatch four years ago. Boat builders really seized the styling options this offered and made recesses when tooling new decks to receive the hatch.
Now Lewmar has looked at what it can do to develop the flush hatch and bring to market a second generation to improve the original concept.
New 2G flush hatches use a thicker acrylic in place of an upper frame. This has the advantage of removing some of the production processes and delivering a more robust hatch. A seal is then bonded to the acrylic to offer a superior fastening with the bottom frame. Acrylic on size 10 and 44 will increase from a 10mm to 14mm and size 60 will increase to a 15mm thickness.
The 2G hatches will be introduced to the market this year and will be a direct replacement for Lewmar’s first generation flush hatch. The existing mouldings on boats will not need to be modified, making them completely interchangeable as all sizes and dimensions remain the same. Hatches will be available with the standard grey acrylic, with ‘gangster’ dark grey to follow. Pricing will also remain the same.
“It has been a very exciting time for Lewmar,” explains Bob Stevens, Lewmar’s product manager. “ We have been simultaneously listening to boat designers and stylists to develop products to achieve the look they want, while helping boat builders to design deck tooling to receive them. The new 2G hatch will provide our customers with enhancements and improvements to the original concept.”
