Using Electric Load Sensing technology, it automatically cuts power when safe working loads or motor temperatures are exceeded, then restores operation once conditions return to normal—ensuring safer, more reliable winching in all sailing conditions.

Advanced Overload Protection for Safer Winch Operation 

Lewmar’s pioneering ELS (Electric Load Sensing) technology brings a new level of safety and control to electric winching. The ELS Control Box continuously monitors winch load in real time and allows operation up to the safe working limit of the specific winch model. Should the load exceed this threshold, the system immediately triggers an automatic cut‑out, preventing mechanical overstress or potential damage.

Intelligent Auto-Recovery Function 

When the load returns to within the acceptable safe working range, the winch can be restarted instantly. This intelligent behaviour ensures smooth, controlled operation without risking the winch, electrics, or rig—especially valuable during high‑load manoeuvres such as hoisting, reefing, or heavy trimming.

Motor Thermal Trip for Added Protection 

In addition to overload sensing, the ELS Control Box features a built‑in motor thermal trip. This advanced safety function shuts down the system if excessive heat builds up in the motor, protecting it from overheating and extending the long‑term service life of the equipment.
